When a US chemical distributor needed reliable level measurement in their hydrochloric acid tanks, they turned to Flowline. HCL is a clear, colorless, aqueous based mineral acid with numerous industrial and commercial applications such as PVC manufacturing, steel pickling, cleaning products and wastewater treatment. Bulk distributors take chemical deliveries from train railcars into large storage tanks at their terminal locations. Reliable tank inventory monitoring is at the heart of their business, affecting everything from timely customer deliveries to efficient trucking logistics and supply chain management. HCL is very corrosive and vaporous, making it a challenging liquid to measure.
For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of pulse radar sensors with a PTFE shield that are unaffected by such process conditions. The result is reliable hydrochloric acid level measurement. Here, an EchoPulse 26 GHz pulse radar level transmitter is mounted on the top of each HCL storage tank. The two-wire, 4-20 mA signal output is connected to the PLC for inventory monitoring and alarms. A DataLoop indicator displays the HCL inventory and is of particular importance during the filling or dispensing process. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
