Accurate Water Reservoir Guided Wave Level Sensor

_________________________________________________________________

When the Flood Division of Orange County, California Public Works needed reliable level measurement of Prado Dam reservoir, they turned to Flowline. The reservoir is a flood control basin that protects downstream communities, recharges groundwater and provides recreational habitat for boating, fishing and hunting. The basin operators monitor tributary levels and use that data to project reservoir trends. Given the enormous acreage, a 1/4-inch rise in level can translate into hundreds of thousands of gallons difference in reservoir in-flow, and thus level accuracy is critical. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our coaxial guided wave level sensors that are highly accurate and unaffected by turbulence or plant debris. The guided wave sensor provides continuous level data to the SCADA system, which in turn, monitors tributary in-flows and provides alarms. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Boiler Water Storage Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

When a New York building automation integrator needed reliable level measurement of their customers boiler water storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The tanks provide a hot water inventory buffer between the tenant apartments and boilers located in the basement. To maintain the temperature throughout the system, hot water recirculates between the boilers, storage tanks and tenants. The tanks are hot, humid environments, dripping with condensation. The integrator wanted the longevity of using a non-contact level solution, but they had experienced problems with ultrasonic sensors in condensation, and they couldn’t afford pulse radar on this job. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our reflective-ultrasonic sensors that work in condensation. The ultrasonic sensor provides continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, controls the tank fill valve and recirculation pump. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Oil Field Mud Separator Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

When China National Petroleum needed reliable level measurement of their oil field mud tanks, they turned to Flowline. Mud tanks collect and separate solid materials such as sand and other aggregates from drilling fluids. These rectangular metal tanks have agitated compartments that precipitate solids from fluid as it passes from one compartment to the next. The tanks fill quickly and are susceptible to clogging. Rig operators stand on top of them and use high power water hoses to blast material blockages, and level measurement is critical to alert them of problems before they become spills. CNP required intrinsically safe, non-contact level measurement due to the coating nature of fluid, coupled with the presence of methane gas. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our EchoTouch ultrasonic level sensor installed over each mud tank compartment in a mobile stand. Hundreds of ultrasonic sensors provide reliable level data to the SCADA, which in turn, controls the tank process and alarms. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Industrial Waste Sump Radar Level Sensor

When a New Jersey food ingredient manufacturer needed reliable level measurement of their pump lift stations, they turned to Flowline. The process flows into a large sump that collects and transfers residual ingredients, CIP chemicals and steaming hot water into wastewater treatment. The operators experienced several pressure sensor failures due to coating and corrosion, and ultrasonic sensors measured intermittently whenever steam entered the sump. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our pulse radar sensors that are unaffected by coating, corrosive or steaming wastewater. The pulse radar sensor is bracket mounted to the sump top and provides continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, controls the submersible pump. The push button level display is panel mounted for convenient indication. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Ferric Chloride Storage Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

When the State of Minnesota needed reliable level measurement of their ferric chloride storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The state has 11,842 lakes fed by 6,564 rivers or streams that may carry high levels of suspended solids, derived from mud and numerous biological sources. Where significant, solids cause stratification, resulting in increased water temperature, lower dissolved oxygen, and the loss of fish habitat. To combat this, flocculants are injected into damaging streams. Ferric chloride binds with suspended solids, and creates clumps that fall to the bottom, where lake microorganisms break them down. The state experienced problems with previous ultrasonic sensors during the humid summer months when significant condensation builds up on the transducers. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our reflective ultrasonic sensors that work in condensation. The ultrasonic sensor provides continuous level data to the SCADA system, which in turn, monitors the tank inventories and alarms for replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Vaporous Resin Storage Tank Radar Level Sensor

When a Virginia manufacturer of foam core signs needed reliable level measurement of their resin bulk storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. Urea and formaldehyde resins are blended into fillers, coatings and adhesives that provide structure to their products. Highly sticky, plant operators used ultrasonic sensors in these applications, but they became intermittent as the level approached the bottom of the tank. This was caused by vapor and the resulting absorption of the acoustic signal. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our pulse radar level sensors that are unaffected by vapor, and ideal for coating media like resin. The pulse radar sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the tanks and alarms for replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Soda Ash Slurry Mix Tank Radar Level Sensor

When an Ohio coal fired power plant needed reliable level measurement of their soda ash mix tanks, they turned to Flowline. To lower emissions, soda ash is blended with fuel to absorb the acidic sulfur dioxide gas. But first, soda ash is mixed into a slurry, and there plant operators had reliability problems with guided wave level sensors, caused by turbulence and wear. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact pulse radar sensors that are unaffected by turbulence and resulting surface foam. The pulse radar sensor provides continuous level data to the SCADA system, which in turn monitors, fills, blends and dispenses each batch. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Municipal Bleach Storage Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

When a California municipality needed reliable level measurement of their sodium hypochlorite storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. To get a head start on disinfection, the city injects bleach into lift stations that transfer wastewater to their treatment plant. A highly corrosive and vaporous disinfectant, bleach is difficult to measure, and it notoriously corrodes fluid handling equipment. As a result, the operators had experienced problems with several different types of level sensors. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact ultrasonic sensors with rugged, corrosion resistant PVDF transducers. The ultrasonic sensor provides continuous level data to the tank indicator and SCADA system, which in turn monitors the inventory and alarms for bleach replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Water Treatment Clarifier Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

_________________________________________________________________

When the Xishiqiao Water Treatment Plant needed reliable level measurement of their clarifier tanks, they turned to Flowline. Water is pumped from the Changjiang river into each clarifier, where it drains over time, passing through the sand filter bottom. The level measurement of each tank is critical to this process and the operators had experienced problems with pressure sensors due to clogging, and ultrasonic sensors due to condensation build up on transducers during periods of morning dew. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our reflective ultrasonic sensors that work in condensation. The ultrasonic sensors provide continuous level data to the SCADA system, which in turn, monitors each tank, and periodically refills them. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Hydrochloric Acid Bulk Tank Radar Level Sensor

When the city of Ontario, California needed reliable level measurement of their hydrochloric acid bulk storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The city uses HCL to neutralize waste streams at their water treatment plant, where the operators were dissatisfied with inconsistent readings from their ultrasonic sensors, caused by vapor and acoustic signal attenuation. HCL is extremely vaporous and corrosive. Therefore, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact radar sensor with an impervious PTFE antenna shield. Now two years later and the sensors continue to perform flawlessly. The pulse radar sensors provide continuous level data to the SCADA system, which in turn, monitors the tanks, and alarms for replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
