Laser sensors for metals and rough surfaces                                                                          Product Technology

 

A small light spot diameter is not recommended for measurements on shiny metals or machined surfaces that show small micromachining marks. Micromechanical surface properties allow no homogeneous reflection which results in noisy or unstable measurement signals.

 

For these requirements, laser sensors with an oval light spot of only a few millimeters width, similar to a short »laser line«, are recommended. The oval light spot combined with special software algorithms filter out disturbances caused by surface roughness, defects, depressions or smallest holes. In addition, this type of sensor is suitable for distance measurements on structured surfaces, i.e. when the distance to the surface and not the structure of the surface is to be measured. The oval light spot is not influenced by surface structures and ensures constant and stable generation of measurement values.

The compact optoNCDT 1420 LL laser sensors are designed for measurements of shiny metallic and rough surfaces. The oval light spot, which resembles a short laser line, can better compensate for unevenness such as texture and roughness. Special software algorithms filter out interference caused by surface roughness, defects, depressions or the smallest holes.

Extreme dynamic laser sensor with anti speckle feature – optoNCDT 2300LL

optoNCDT 2300LL laser sensors use a very small laser line instead of the common laser spot. Therefore, the optoNCDT 2300LL is also very well suited for precise distance and displacement measurements on glossy, porous or rough surfaces. Its high measurement rate up to 49kHz makes it possible to use the sensor in high speed processes. Parameter setup of the laser sensor is effected via web interface which is accessible via the Ethernet interface. The web interface offers numerous possibilities for processing measurement values and signals.

Universal laser sensor for reflecting surfaces

 
The new optoNCDT 1750DR laser sensors are designed for measurements with strongly reflecting objects. With its special sensor alignment, the directly reflected laser light is used for distance measurements. This enables high precision measurements on demanding measurement objects such as reflecting plastics, mirrored glass and polished metals.

Compact design with integrated controller

optoNCDT 1750DR laser sensors are extremely compact and equipped with a fully integrated controller. No external controller is required, which simplifies and speeds up mounting and wiring. Due to their extremely compact size, these laser sensors can also be integrated into restricted spaces. The mounting template included supports the correct alignment of the laser sensor relative to the measurement object.

 
 

Distance measurements on shiny and reflective surfaces

Strongly reflecting surfaces require a sensor alignment where the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. optoNCDT 1750DR laser sensors compensate for the intensity of the directly reflected radiation while enabling high signal stability and high accuracy.

 

Safe measurements with laser class 1

optoNCDT1750DR sensors are equipped with a laser of class 1 whose radiated power is at max. 390 µW. As this laser radiation does not represent a hazard to the eye, corresponding protective measures are not necessary.

The wireSENSOR mechanics of the P60, P96, P115 and P200 series ensure easy mounting of an incremental or absolute encoder.
