High-performance fiber optic sensors for machine building and automation

 
The optoCONTROL CLS1000 optoelectronic fiber optic sensor is suitable for use in automation thanks to its variable switching outputs. The CLS1000 is used for reliable position monitoring as well as for position and presence detection. The fiber optic sensor comprises a CFS sensor and a CLS1000 controller. The wide detection and operating ranges of up to 2000 mm make the fiber optic sensor ideal for the detection of components even at great distances. Due to the small design of the CFS sensors, the CLS1000 optoelectronic fiber optic sensor series is particularly suitable for use in confined installation spaces.

Comprehensive sensor range

The high-quality CFS sensors with fiber optics are characterized by small installation dimensions and robust materials. This makes them particularly suitable for mechanical stress and harsh ambient conditions such as high temperatures. The sensor can also be used in restricted areas as the sensor head requires a minimum of installation space. Depending on the measurement task, the sensors can be individually combined.  
 

Large detection and operating ranges

Thanks to its high luminous intensity and resolution, the fiber optic sensor achieves peak values for detection and operating ranges. Depending on the sensor used, the operating range can be up to 2000 mm for transmitted light operation, and the detection range up to 1200 mm in one-way operation. This increases process reliability when used in plants and systems.
 

Extremely robust and compact controllers

Thanks to the robust plastic housing made of polycarbonate and the IP67 protection class, the controller is predestined for industrial tasks. Its slim design allows easy integration where installation space is limited. In addition, DIN rail mounting enables fast integration into any control cabinet.  
 

Various controller models to overcome any challenge

The CLS1000 controller is available in various versions: CLS1000-QN with antivalence function (normally open/normally closed), CLS1000-2Q with two switching outputs, CLS1000-OC with optocoupler, CLS1000-AU with voltage output and CLS1000-AI with current output. Each model is available in NPN, PNP or push-pull versions. In addition, each controller is available with and without triggers.

3D sensors for the inspection of geometry, shapes and surfaces of matt objects

 
surfaceCONTROL sensors are used for 3D measurements and surface inspections. The sensors use the fringe projection principle to detect diffuse reflecting surface and to generate a 3D point cloud. This point cloud is subsequently evaluated in order to recognize geometry, extremely small defects and discontinuities on the surface. Sensors with different measurement areas are available. This enables the inspection of the finest of structures on components as well as shape deviations on large-area attachments. Powerful software packages are available for evaluation and parameter setting.

Software integration via Micro-Epsilon’s 3D-SDK

The surfaceCONTROL sensors are equipped with an easy-to-integrate SDK (Software Development Kit). The SDK is based on the GigE Vision and GenICam industry standards including the following function blocks:

  •  Network configuration and sensor connection
  •  Comprehensive sensor control
  •  Control of measurement data transfer (3D data, video images, ...)
  •  Management of user-defined parameter sets
  •  C/ C++/ C# library, example programs and documentation

The Industrial Performance Unit is a powerful computing platform for the efficient commissioning of Micro-Epsilon 3D sensors. The fully compatible controller is ideally suited to inline processes in 3D measurement tasks. The intuitive 3DInspect software with Valid3D technology enables simple and fast sensor parameter setting, which allows measurements to start immediately. The Industrial Performance Unit directly processes three-dimensional data, which is subsequently evaluated and assessed via the 3DInspect software. Results can be output via the integrated PROFINET and EtherNet/IP interfaces.

3DInspect is a uniform and user-friendly software tool for all 3D sensors from Micro-Epsilon. Parameter setting of the 3D sensors and recording of the measurement data are done directly in the 3DInspect software. Powerful tools allow point cloud alignment and filtering, intuitive detection and selection of relevant areas, and program combination. The 3D point clouds can be processed as required and measured values can be output to the controller.

Inline capability for industrial applications

The flexible, industrial-grade hardware with passive cooling allows easy and space-saving installation. Therefore you can install this unit in a control cabinet or mount it directly in the machine. You can easily connect accessories such as monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Industrial Ethernet: Output of measurement values via integrated interfaces

The Industrial Performance Unit offers integrated interfaces for connection to the PROFINET and Ethernet/IP industrial fieldbuses. Prepared device description files allow easy integration into the respective control environment. For reliable communication, the sequential control model developed by Micro-Epsilon is available for smooth commissioning. It is available as an implementation example for typical controllers.
