Non-contact measurement of thickness and width of coils (thickness 0.5 to 20mm)Hot and cold strip are processed by steel service centers that use a variety of different methods. In slitting lines, for example, extremely wide coils weighing up to 40t are split into several narrow rings. After the slitting process, either the MTS 8201.T, MTS 8201.LLT, MTS 8202.T or MTS 8202.LLT system (depending on the precision required, the material width and the vertical material movement) measures the thickness profile. The systems of the MTS 8201 family are designed as C-frames and O-frames with application specific sensor technology. MTS 7202.T
The MTS 7202.T is equipped with Micro-Epsilon optoNCDT LL (laser line) sensors, where the oval point-shaped laser beam is widened to a small line via a special cylindrical lens. The received reflected light is averaged using a special software algorithm. The interference caused by shiny metal is completely filtered out. The series offers two different precision classes, both based on the laser triangulation technology, and comes with several measuring ranges and two measurement widths. Due to the high measurement rate the clamp is ideally suited for dynamic processes. A fully-automatic in-situ calibration ensures the measurement to be independent from temperature influences, thus the system can be applied in harsh industrial environments being characterised by permanently providing inline precision. MTS 8202.LLT(CFK) The MTS8202.LLT CFK C-frame system made from CFRP is the perfect complement to the MTS 8202 series, when large strip widths needed to be inspected with C-shaped measurement technology in metal processing applications. The rigidity of the system enables maximum precision measurement in rolling mills and service centers. Due to its low weight, the C-frame system is ideally suited to flexible use at different measuring points in the rolling process. The high lateral resolution of the laser line enables geometrical thickness measurement of fluted or checker plate, measurement of gap widths, as well as the accurate measurement of the profile on the edge of the strip. These are characteristics that are impossible to measure using conventional isotope or X-ray equipment, due to the size of the measuring spot. Features:

The system is equipped with laser triangulation sensors allowing extreme fast measurements. MWS 8203.LLT The operating principle of the dimensionCONTROL MWS 8203.LLT system is based on laser line triangulation scanners (i.e. profile sensor technology) that provide extremely high lateral resolution and therefore the required precision can be achieved. The highly dynamic positioning of two profile sensors at the edges of the strip to be measured enables high precision width measurements. These sensors measure the width synchronously using the distance measurement between both sensor positions. In the case of large widths, thermal expansion plays an important role and is compensated for by using an innovative concept that prevents the precision of the measuring systems being influenced by the width of the material to be measured. The 2D profile sensor not only recognizes the strip edge, but also knows the height information, enabling the sensor to account for possible tilting of the metal strip. Characteristics:
